Chapter Five: "Kala's Success"
Having been outsmarted by the Ronins and Sailors, Kala knew the Dark Mage wouldn't be happy. She fearfully reappeared in the Dark Mage's palace, then walked into his throneroom so as not to draw very much attention. As she approached him, the Mage looked up from the small crystal ball that floated mysteriously two feet in front of him and ten inches below his eyes.
"Kala, you have failed me. AGAIN. You have one last chance to redeem yourself. Now that the Sailors have brought the Ronins back to this dimension, we have a new problem. Although the Ronins do not yet know this, their Armors will work in this dimension. Unfortunately for us, the Armor of Inferno will be much stronger here than in the other dimension. Our only hope is this dimension's Nether Realm."
"Master, if I may, this world has a Nether Realm?"
"Yes, Kala, it does. We, however, are the only ones who know about it. In that Nether Realm are exact duplicates of the Ronin Armors. There are also copies of the Warlord Armors not currently in use by people from the other dimension. Your task will be to secure the kanji orbs for all nine of those Armors and bring them back to me. I will be going on a brief excursion into the other dimension. I will be back before you. Just do not fail me, woman."
"Yes, Master."
As Kala rose from her kneeling position, the Dark Mage disappeared. Kala knew what she had to do, so she made her way to the ground level of the palace. She took a long, winding corridor that ended at a large, steel double door. She knocked four times slowly and loudly, then pushed the doors open as quickly as she could. She stepped into the huge chamber, making sure to swiftly walk past the doors. As soon as she did this, the dors slammed shut behind her.
"Kempec, the Master has ordered me to go to this dimension's Nether Realm. I need two portal orbs for this purpose. One must create a portal to the Nether Realm, and the other to create a portal directly to the Master's chamber doors."
A small, haggard man steeped from the prevailing darkness. He appeared to be at least ninety years old. He walked with a wooden staff that was barely as tall as he. The four-feet-tall man pulled his left hand from his staff and dug around in a pouch that hung from his shoulder. His hand emerged from the pouch holding two small orbs that could have been easily confused for kanji orbs if not for the perpendicular gold rings that circled the orb just over the perpendicular black rings and at a forty-five-degree angle to them.
"Here," he said directly to Kala, "are the orbs you requested. The one that has a red glow inside it when you touch it is the return orb. The one with the blue glow is the orb that will take you to the Nether Realm. Each orb works only once, and the resulting portals last for less than two minutes. Do not use either orb hastily, as they are my only transport orbs for this purpose. Should you misuse either orb, you will not be able to reach your destination. Should you misuse the return orb, you will be stuck in the Nether Realm until the Dark Mage decides it is worthwhile to retrieve you."
"I understand, Kempec."
Kempec disappeared, leaving Kala alone in the immense chamber.
"Thank you, father."
Two days later, Kala reappeared in the hallway outside the Dark Mage's throneroom. She opened the doors and walked in cautiously, but cheerfully. She had finally done something right-she retrieved the nine kanji orbs just as she had been ordered to. She had also found an added bonus-a tiger's Armor that looked identical to Black Blaze's, except that it was entirely black. As she held the treasures in the air for the Mage to see, he stood up and walked over to her.
"Well, Kala, I see you've done your task well. You also managed to bring back a treasure I didn't know for sure existed in this dimension. In reward, take this." He handed her a locket that looked similar to Sailor Moon's, but it was black where Serena's was pink and silver where Serena's was gold. "You will know how to use it when the time comes. You will again face the Sailor Scouts, as well. You will use the power of the locket to defeat them and the Ronins. Should you fail, your father will find a replacement for you, and you will be eliminated."
"Yes, Master. I will not fail you."
"You had better not. Before you face the Scouts and Ronins, you will train in Kempec's Room of Illusion. There, you will be able to learn how to use the power of the locket and the crystal within it. Now, go. You have only three days to train before you must meet the Ronins and Sailors."
"Yes, Master." Kala stood up, turned around, and disappeared.
Several moments later, she was again face-to-face with Kempec. "Father," she began, "the Master has ordered me to train in your Room of Illusions. He has given me this locket to use as part of my training."
"Follow me," commanded the waek voice of Kempec. As they walked through the large hall, they remained silent, a world of mixed emotions in Kala's eyes. They finally arrived at a large door that appeared to be made of solid gold. "Kala, as soon as you enter, you will feel light-headed. This is because the room will scan your thoughts and recreate the Ronins and Sailors. It will also scan the dimension for these people for more help in recreating them. When the room has finished, you will feel normal again. Once you come out of the room in three days, it will feel like you trained for twelve weeks. Do not worry about this. Your body will return to its well-rested state after you exit the room and enter the healing chamber for five minutes or so. Then you will be free to fight the Ronins and Sailors as the Mage has ordered you to"
"Thank you, father."
Kala entered the room.
Author's Pointless Rants
Well, I finally did another chapter of the fic. Happy now? (j/k)
Anyway, the next two chapters will focus on Kala and apparitions of the Ronins and Sailors that wil fight her. There will also be a new search in the future, too. They're not gonna be time-traveling, but the search will make them consider it seriously. Anyway, this fic should extend to more than twenty chapters quite easily.
Thanks to Aleksa for sparking the ideas for the future chapters. After burning the original chapters five through seventeen, I rewrote them with ideas sparked from the conversations she and I have had. She's unknowingly become one of my best advisors.
Expect to see the Power Rangers (ZEO version) enter this fic iun about ten chapters, if not more. I can't resist the opportunity to kill them off, so I guess their stay will be limited to about eight or nine chapters. With their arrival, expect to see the ZEO Zords and the Super ZEO Zords, too. Still, I just couldn't resist adding them to the mix.
Let me know how you like this and the other chapters!
